Laws such as Title IX, the Voting Rights Act, and women’s suffrage aim to rectify historical exclusions by promoting inclusion in a supposed universal project. The argument that current identity politics are justified by the past injustices of white identity politics is flawed; the objective is to move beyond such divisive politics and uphold principles of equality and civil rights.
