Henry Kissinger on Kant, peace, and optimism
Peace will come about either through human understanding or through catastrophic events. Kant did not guarantee peace by reason. Progress has been made in the past century, but after some terrible periods. Looking forward, there is not likely another hundred years of progress. Kissinger is fundamentally optimistic due to his difficult life, which gives ground for optimism. He believes in inspiring the younger generation with faith in the future.
