The Process of Rock Formation and Metamorphism
Rocks can be formed when pressure melts grains together over time, even in seemingly impermeable rocks. Water in sedimentary rocks can deposit cement between grains, acting as glue to hold the rock together. Metamorphic rocks are formed when rocks undergo intense heat and pressure, causing minerals to rearrange into a new rock, such as limestone.
