Transitioning from Small Team to Hiring and Communication Overhead
In this stage of the hiring process, you go from leading a small team to actively hiring. Your first hires are usually people you know, but as your team grows, your role shifts and you have more communication overhead. At 2 to 5 team members, you can still spend 70% of your time coding, but at 5 to 10, it drops to under 50% and at 10+, you may not have time to code at all. You have to decide whether to remain as an architect or take on a more people-focused role. The first stage is ideating, where the goal is to build a prototype quickly. Stage two is building an MVP, with a focus on launching within a few weeks. Once launched, the principles of scalability and efficiency still apply as you iterate towards product market fit.
