NOTE

Efficiency through Streamlined Design

The Frankfurt kitchen, designed by Shudulahatski in the 1920s, was inspired by scientific management to streamline workflows and minimize work for housewives by eradicating any excess movements. Shudulahatski mapped shortest paths in the kitchen, ensuring every step and arm reach was necessary. The kitchen aimed to make women's lives easier, giving them time for more creative and intellectual pursuits. Mass-produced with little variations, the Frankfurt kitchen was installed in about 10,000 public housing units, receiving praise from architects and public housing leaders across Europe.
