The speaker was committed to the idea of Flexport from 2010, but had to wait until March 31st, 2013, when the license was granted by the US Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection. During the three years of waiting, the speaker had no revenue from Flexport, and it was a side project while still working on their previous business. Once the license was approved, the speaker made Flexport a full-time job immediately.

Ryan Petersen is the founder and CEO of Flexport.

Flexport is a global freight forwarder powered by software and analytics. They are making international trade easier for over 10,000 companies in 70 countries. They were part of the YC Winter 2014 batch.
