The Process of Building High-Performing Qubits
Silicon goes in one side of the building, and Heron comes out the other. But building high-performing qubits is a complex task. Unlike others using ions and atoms, ours are just metal on a substrate. These circuits can be arranged and built in a specific way to create qubits that resonate at 5 GHz. However, choosing the wrong materials can drastically reduce the qubits' lifetimes. In the early days, superconducting qubits only lasted a few nanoseconds.
