Exploring Clotho: The Compound That Could Change Alzheimer’s Risk

Clotho is a naturally occurring compound in humans that is linked to reduced risk of dementia, particularly Alzheimer's disease. It is produced in higher quantities during high-intensity exercises, but levels decrease with age. Individuals with certain genetic polymorphisms that lead to overproduction of Clotho experience significantly lower dementia risks, even when carrying high-risk genes like ApoE4. For ApoE4 carriers—who face greatly increased chances of developing Alzheimer's—Clotho appears to level the playing field, maintaining risk at similar levels to those with ApoE3 genotype. Furthermore, studies on mice and monkeys have shown that Clotho administration can reverse dementia symptoms, highlighting its potential as a transformative therapeutic option for Alzheimer's disease.
