NOTE

Understanding TXA's Impact on Severe Trauma Patients

In severely injured patients, those receiving Tranexamic Acid (TXA) had a significantly higher rate of transfusions (69%) compared to those not receiving TXA (24%). A remarkable 98% of all patients received thrombolic prophylaxis during their hospital stay. Among TXA recipients, 12.5% developed venous thromboembolism (VTE) with a mortality rate of 5.6%, while the non-TXA group showed lower rates—4.6% for VTE and 1.7% mortality. However, after adjusting for demographics and clinical characteristics, the administration of TXA was not significantly associated with VTE but was linked to increased mortality, indicating a complex relationship between TXA use and patient outcomes.
