The concept of a nation is not inherent. We are born into it and may take it for granted. However, to maintain social cooperation, we must embrace both our individual and shared identities. As a German Jew, patriotism doesn't come naturally to me, but I've learned to appreciate and love the culture of my country in a civic sense.
