The Power of Collective Knowledge - chimp vs babies
In an experiment, young children and young chimps were given a box with a hole on the top and the side. When the experimenter poked a stick through the holes, the chimps and children received rewards. In a variation of the experiment, the box was transparent, revealing that the first action was unnecessary. The chimps quickly learned to ignore it, while the children continued to repeat the unnecessary action. This shows that children often hold onto beliefs without fully understanding them, while chimps are more adaptable and learn from experience.
