A theory from the book 'Mortal Error' proposes that after the assassination attempt on the president, the shooter misses the target, leading to the president being wounded. In this case, the truth lies in the fact that the secret service agents in the car behind the president did react swiftly by standing up and one of them, George Hinckley, took out an automatic weapon in response.
