In the midst of discussing the climate crisis and ecology, Antonio Gramsci's quote on combining pessimism of the intellect with optimism of the will comes to mind. We need to acknowledge the messed-up state of things, but also recognize our ability to make a difference. It's not the dolphins or jellyfish who caused the problem, but rather companies like Exxon and Chevron, who should be held accountable. However, we should all take responsibility for the situation, as our actions matter. The great thing about responsibility is that it can be shared in varying degrees.
