The drive for uniformity and order within civilizations can arise from a desire to control this inherent trait, often resulting in monocultures and intolerance of dissent. Such an approach, however, can lead to the breakdown of societal and ecological systems when it becomes excessive. Cultures like Aboriginal societies serve as mechanisms to temper narcissism, highlighting the necessity of balance in human interactions to prevent the rise of exploitative behaviors, including freeloading and predation, which threaten societal integrity.
