Singapore Exchange has historically fallen behind regional peers in market size and number of listed companies, such as exchanges in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. To address this, proposals are being considered to increase market participation, including requiring stock market involvement from private capital and potentially allowing pension and sovereign funds to invest more in the stock market. The government and SGX are taking these proposals seriously, aiming to attract more companies to list on the exchange and regain investor interest.
