Interpreting Bodily Signals for Contextual Response

The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) in the brain interprets bodily signals such as breathing and heart rate to determine whether they are appropriate for the circumstances. The left dorsilateral prefrontal cortex is responsible for controlling and interpreting the ACC region. Unlike the well-known amygdala, the ACC receives input from various areas of the brain and body, including threat detection centers, heart, and gut, to assess the appropriateness of bodily responses for the given context.
