Limited Progress in Solid Organ Tumors

The field of oncology has made significant progress in blood tumors and certain lymphomas, with remarkable advancements in Hodgkin's lymphoma and immunotherapy for B cell lymphoma with CD19 receptor. However, progress in solid organ tumors has been limited, with only breakthroughs in a specific type of testicular cancer and a rare gastric cancer known as GI stromal tumor. The majority of cancer deaths in Americans are caused by solid epithelial tumors such as lung, breast, prostate, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers, where progress has been minimal in the last 50 years.
