NOTE

Creating Habits with Immediate Rewards

Creating a habit involves setting a cue for the behavior and immediately rewarding yourself. A study demonstrated that participants who were instructed to choose a cue for exercise and reward themselves with a piece of chocolate right after exercising showed a significant increase in exercise habits. Those who followed this approach had a 24 to 25% exercise rate, almost double the average population rate of 13 to 18%. Providing immediate rewards helps the brain recognize the benefits of the behavior, making it more likely to stick as a habit.
