The End of Languages
The disappearance of languages and cultures is often overlooked, but it is a catastrophic loss. There are currently around 7,000 languages left in the world, and we are losing one every 10 to 12 days. Some languages have only one last speaker remaining. This rapid extinction of languages and cultures is even faster than the extinction of species. It is a deep concern for me, and my wife has created an installation called Last Whispers, which showcases extinct languages through oratorio.
