Achieving goals brings satisfaction, but it is fleeting. However, most people find satisfaction in small rewards and reaching the end of the day or week. Our brains are wired to anticipate rewards and believe we will keep that satisfaction forever, but we fall prey to the hedonic treadmill. Mother nature tricks us into thinking we will keep satisfaction, but in reality, we always return to our baseline. This is because homeostasis ensures we are ready for the next set of circumstances. So, it's impossible to keep lasting satisfaction.
