The Silk Roads were complex networks connecting civilizations through different institutions of belief and trade, each with unique ways of living. The Silk Roads encompassed various civilizations on the steppe and the great steppe, covering around eight million square kilometers from the Pontic steppe in Ukraine to Xinjiang. The steppe region includes diverse landscapes such as grasslands, forests, mountains, highlands, and lowlands, challenging the misconception that it is solely a vast meadow.
