Reevaluating the Channel Model for Slack
The problem with Slack's current chat model is the lack of scarcity, resulting in noise and distraction due to excessive channels and conversations. As a company grows, the channel model becomes unmanageable leading to employees joining every channel, creating an overwhelming amount of noise. The channel model was effective for easy onboarding but lacks the specificity required to direct conversations to the right people, which is a key problem that needs to be addressed.
