Internet Security and the Vulnerability of One Way Functions

The encrypted channel on the internet provides security, but one way functions, which are at the heart of internet security, are subject to changing technology. These one way functions, like multiplication and factoring, are currently hard to reverse, but the invention of quantum computers could make factoring as a one way function obsolete, posing a potential threat to internet security.
