The Influence of Instagram on Body Image and Comparison
In a world filled with iPhones, having an outdated Nokia phone would make me feel ashamed. The value of the phone remains the same, but the context in which it exists has changed. Looking at Instagram, people make snap judgments about their own value and appearance based on what they see, even though it may be fake. Cosmetic surgeons are seeing an increase in patients wanting to change their bodies based on Instagram references. The brain is naturally lazy and comparison-oriented, leading to feelings of inadequacy. It is difficult to stop making comparisons, but acknowledging this can help in taking control of one's mind.
