Exploring the Definition and Nature of Evil

Evil is defined as a privation of good, not existing as a standalone entity but rather as an absence of goodness. It is akin to a shadow being dependent on light. The classical understanding portrays evil as a lack of righteousness, sin depicted as missing the mark. Just like a donut hole is where the donut is absent, evil is where good is missing. This leads to questioning the grounding of goodness and prompts a search for a standard of good, ultimately pointing towards a perfectly good being as the standard, as advocated in Christianity.
