The Catholic Church in West Central Africa
Most slaves in Jamaica were not Christian until missionaries arrived in the late 18th century. However, some West Central Africans, like the kingdom of Congo, had already converted to Catholicism before being enslaved. Anglicans were less involved in missions compared to the Moravians, Methodists, and Baptists. It's unknown if there were other forms of non-Christian African religion practiced on plantations.
