Evil individuals throughout history do not aim to maximize human suffering but rather believe they are doing good, inadvertently causing suffering. Malevolent individuals may seek personal gain while sacrificing others, while some have a goal of inflicting massive harm. The possibility of individuals inflicting widespread suffering, like in school shootings or terrorist attacks with advanced weapons, is a terrifying reality. There are actors devoid of empathy or understanding of suffering, not restricted by limits in their actions.
