The difference between science and the arts is that while artists create distinctive works that may not last, science contributions are just one brick in a larger edifice. Science is a social activity that requires constant absorption of new techniques, unlike art. This is why many artists' last works are considered their greatest, while few scientists have the same reputation. This contrast led me to pursue something different.
