Napoleon, once forced to downplay his noble origins, now finds himself in trouble with the new French government. He considers becoming a mercenary but is eventually released from prison and back in Paris. Interestingly, during the revolution, he wrote an essay on happiness where he condemned ambition, which is quite amusing considering his own ambitions.
