Luke gives us a teaser by showing Stephen being stoned to death, but then revealing that he is cast out of the city instead. A young man named Saul assists in the stoning, foreshadowing his future role in the story. The stoning of Stephen is more like mob behavior, where everyone participates and the killer is unknown. It is a horrifying and riotous event.
