NOTE

Methylation Needs: Balance Glycine and Methyl Folate

Low methylene folate levels can lead to the body perceiving a state of excess, resulting in increased urinary excretion of glycine and its metabolites. This suggests a heightened need for both methyl folate and glycine. While the body synthesizes glycine, individuals may still fall short by ten to sixty grams daily, which is crucial for functions like collagen turnover and skin health. Research indicates that supplementing glycine—particularly in doses of three to six grams before bed—can improve sleep, and three to five grams with meals can enhance blood sugar regulation. Incorporating sources of glycine, such as bone broth, collagen, gelatin, or direct supplements, may therefore be beneficial for overall health.
