Life's Unexpected Pivots

The speaker's life took a pivot from being a professional jazz trombone player to pursuing philosophy and writing after his mother's death when he was 18. Despite his passion for music, he decided to drop out of Juilliard and apply to Columbia, realizing that music can still be pursued outside of school.
