Ep 14. Stress and learning with Dan Rosen
Chalk & Talk
The most effective way to decrease stress for tests is to do retrieval practice in preparation.
Retrieval practice is the best way to prevent stress from affecting students' recall. Numerous studies support its effectiveness, with students reporting improved learning and reduced nervousness. In a study by Smith (2016), students who used retrieval practice performed significantly better than those who relied on rereading. It was found that while stress response was similar, the students who practiced retrieval had superior recall abilities. This highlights the importance of retrieval practice in mitigating the negative effects of stress on learning.
