The Globalization of the Auto Sector
The auto sector's globalization poses challenges to increasing unionization. European and South Korean opposition, lobbying from Toyota and Tesla, and a push to protect non-union European car factories led to the removal of pro-union provisions in a bill. The question arises whether European firms prioritize their interests over supporting unions in the US. The elimination of these provisions affects marginalized workers and diminishes the opportunity for unionization in the industry. The responsibility for impeding unionization extends beyond the US Democratic caucus due to international pressure. Within the caucus, the allocation of benefits to different sectors remains uncertain.
