The Present Work Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism

The emergence of the present work ethic aligns with the rise of capitalism. Luther believed in the unifying power of the Bible but Protestantism quickly fragments when individuals are left to interpret it. Giving everyone individual authority without tradition or history leads to disagreement.
