The attempt to establish a liberal democracy was short-lived, leading to a warlord era. In response, figures like Sayon Pei and Lita Zhao initiated the new culture movement, focusing on new ideas such as science and democracy. The Bolshevik revolution had a significant impact on China, as it introduced the concept of a people's government, diverging from the western model.
