NOTE

assessing muscle mass - (hypertrophy)

To measure hypertrophy, pay attention to body composition tests like a DEXA scan, which gives you the Fat Free Mass Index (FFMI). For men, a healthy FFMI is 20+, while for women, it's 18+. If your FFMI is 24+ but your body fat is high, it indicates excessive muscle mass without being lean. The assumption is sub 30% body fat for men and sub 35% for women. Online calculators can help determine your FFMI score based on your weight, body fat percentage, and height. A score below 17 for men and 15 for women indicates insufficient muscle. FFMI, not body fat, is the key measurement for hypertrophy.
