Genetic Modification for Worship

Ancient beings wanted to stop wars by genetically modifying humans to instill a worship gene. The DNA of themselves mixed with a slain god's DNA to create worker beings who would take orders from them. They discovered a worship gene that can be turned on or off, making humans either look inside themselves or seek something outside. This genetic modification was aimed at making humans worship the ancient beings who created them.
