GitLab is an all-in-one DevOps platform from planning to monitoring, providing a faster, easier, and more secure way to write software. Initially open source, it evolved to include proprietary features for which a subscription is needed. Users can still view, contribute, and modify the source code, driving hundreds of quarterly improvements. The open-source license allows for permissionless innovation and the creation of alternatives to gitlab.com without needing permission.
