NOTE

The Evolution of Imagination and Consciousness

Podcaster and neuroscientist Malcolm MacGyver suggests that the ability to climb onto land was a major step towards consciousness. Fish, only able to make rapid decisions, were limited to seeing only a few meters in front of them. But, with the ability to see for kilometers on land, a new space of possibilities opens up, leading to the evolution of imagination. This theory is similar to Parker's idea about the Cambrian explosion, where the shallow ocean became transparent in a new way.
