How Mosaic became IE

Bill Gates and Microsoft originally focused on the information super highway and interactive TV but underestimated the internet's potential. In 1995, a strategic memo marked the start of Microsoft's aggressive push to dominate the browser market. Microsoft acquired a license for the Mosaic web browser from Spy Glass Inc., leading to bundling it into Windows for free. This move resulted in a lawsuit from Spy Glass, but Microsoft defended itself by highlighting the legal agreement terms. Additionally, Microsoft's strategy with DOS, where OEMs were charged per CPU shipped regardless of the operating system, eventually led to Windows becoming the dominant platform for applications.
