The Irony of the College Admissions Scandal
Parents often inadvertently imbue their children with their own worldview through osmosis. The college admissions scandal is ironic in that these powerful families were emphasizing traditional paths to success when they themselves had achieved success through untraditional means. Cheating to get ahead reinforces the idea that the world is a set of fixed competitions with a limited number of spots, even though a lot of successful people have made their own paths. Billionaire parents were trying to secure advantages for their children, but they had already given them the enormous advantage of seeing that the world is flexible and malleable.
