A Community of Tight-knit Loving Relationships in a Culture of Individualism and Tribalism | Future Church E2

NOTE

The Challenges of the Early Church and the Necessity of Disillusionment

The early church in Acts 2 is often idealized, but it faced numerous challenges like racism, inequality, and false teaching. Many people today are disillusioned with the church, but being disillusioned means recognizing reality. Dietrich Bonhoeffer emphasized that embracing the shock of disillusionment is necessary for true community. It's easy to love the idea of community, but harder to love individuals with their flaws. Creating a pride position leads to shame and contempt. Romans 12 acknowledges the tension and conflict within the church and calls believers to rise above sin and embrace the dream of a united family.
