The right time to start succession planning is yesterday or sooner rather than later. Pastors should recognize that they are all interim pastors and start talking about what happens next. Planning early helps in recognizing the right time and being financially prepared for the future. Tim Selick, a former pastor, offered five statements for pastors to understand succession. The first statement is to approach the position as the acting senior or lead pastor of the church.
