Diagnosis and Discussion of Coccidiosis in Calves
The presumptive diagnosis for the calf was nervous coxidiosis, a rare condition caused by a toxin produced during a severe case of coxidiosis. Coxidiosis itself is a common condition in cow calf herds and dairy calves. It is typically seen in young spring calves around six to eight weeks of age, as well as newly weaned calves in the fall. These calves may experience a bad case of coxidiosis if their immune system is compromised or if the environment is highly contaminated.
