NOTE

Tourism Declines Amid Olympic Spectacle

During the Olympic games, normal tourism often declines significantly due to increased congestion, security concerns, and higher prices, leading tourists to choose alternative destinations. Historical data shows tourism dropped by approximately 5-6% in London 2012 and around 20% in Beijing 2008. While some cities, like Rio in 2016, may see an influx of low-income tourists, this does not offset the overall decline. Furthermore, the notion that hosting the Olympics leads to long-term increases in tourism demand is largely unfounded, as people do not choose to visit cities solely based on their Olympic hosting status.
