The Importance of Controlling Eccentric Phase and Deep Stretch for Hypertrophy
Controlling the eccentric phase and the deep stretch during resistance training plays a crucial role in promoting hypertrophy. Full range of motion is important, but focusing on specific parts of the range that allow for a deep stretch is more beneficial for muscle growth. Research shows that incorporating a deep stretch in exercises stimulates more hypertrophy compared to avoiding it. While the exact mechanisms behind the muscle growth from stretching are still unclear, empirical evidence from controlled trials supports the claim that deep stretching leads to greater muscle growth. While partial range exercises can also promote muscle growth, maximizing the deep stretch can significantly enhance efficiency and effectiveness in muscle building.
