NOTE

Master the Balloon Technique for Smooth G-Tube Placement

Using a 100 percent contrast fluid with the Mustang balloon allows for a slower deflation, which is crucial during the delicate process of G-tube placement. After dilating the balloon, the right moment arises when the balloon is sufficiently deflated yet retains enough contrast to enable smooth advancement into the stomach. This tactile feedback is essential, as it provides confidence in the correct positioning of the tube compared to the less precise peel-away sheath method. Successfully navigating this process involves maintaining forward pressure during the advancement, leading to a satisfying 'pop' sensation when the tube enters the stomach. However, caution is warranted since, occasionally, the waste cannot be reduced, indicating a need for careful monitoring throughout the procedure.
