Analysis of Suicide Attempt Reduction in Mentalization Based Therapy Study
The study revealed a significant reduction in the number of suicide attempts among individuals undergoing mentalization based therapy compared to those receiving treatment as usual. Specifically, the mean number of suicide attempts for the mentalization based group was 0.05, notably lower than the 0.52 mean for the treatment as usual group. This reduction indicates that individuals were able to stabilize themselves, inhibit their impulsivities, and decrease their suicidality measures relatively quickly in the mentalization based therapy group. Moreover, the lowered suicidality measures tended to remain low over a long period, suggesting the effectiveness and sustainability of the therapy in preventing self-destructive behaviors.
