Things can possess consciousness without having generalized intelligence, and the concept of consciousness might differ from human consciousness. There is a familiarity bias that assumes consciousness will resemble human consciousness, limiting our understanding of alternative forms of consciousness. The inevitability of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) claims is often based on emergent theories of consciousness, suggesting that consciousness arises from the brain's complexity and electrical activity.
